Titan is one of the most interesting objects in the Solar System: it is larger than Mercury, has a dense nitrogen atmosphere, and liquid hydrocarbon lakes. It is the only satellite where some form of life might be possible through alternative biochemical pathways. Including Titan in the System series alongside the planets is recognition of its exceptional significance to astronomy.
